We use industry-standard EPA factors for vehicle emissions and fuel economy. Every trip's impact is calculated end-to-end from the route, the vehicle class, and the number of seats filled.
Distance × vehicle CO₂ factor × (riders − 1) ÷ riders. Counts only avoided emissions, not the driver's own trip.
Riders × distance ÷ avg fuel economy of the avoided solo trip. Real numbers from EPA fuel-economy tables.
CO₂ avoided ÷ ~21 kg CO₂ per mature tree per year. A simple, intuitive scale of impact.
